Drag and drop is a function which Apple introduced in System 7.5. The function is similar to the standard cut and paste, but is performed with the mouse. By clicking on a selected word and not releasing the button, it's possible to move the word to a different location in the text. If the <option>-key is pressed when the word is dropped, it'll be copied instead of moved.
Special Drag Funcitions
Drag between different pages
It's possible to move text between different pages by switching page with the cursor keys.
<left> Go to previous page
<right> Go to next page
<up> Go to previous topic
<down> Go to next topic
If the box "Return to original note" is checked, the application will jump back to the page from which the drag originated. Note that it's impossible to undo a drag between two different pages completely (only the visible page is affected of the undo).
Drag to the new-page button
By dropping text on the new-page button, a new page with the text is added.
Drag to minimized window
If text is dropped on a minimized window, three things can happen. If no keys are pressed, the text will be added at the end of the current page. If the <command>-key is pressed, it will be placed on a new empty page. The <option>-key expands the window if the mouse is inside the minimized window. When the text is dropped, the window minimizes again.
Drag to the application file
Textfiles which are dropped on the application file in the Finder will be added as new pages in the current topic. (This function doesn't require drag and drop).
Format for nonstyled text
Text dragged from applications which does not use text-styling gets a default style-format which is set in the preferences-dialog. The choice "No Format" means that the text will get the same style as the text at the insertion point.
System requirements
Drag and drop requires System 7.5 or System 7 with a special drag and drop extension.
